Indigenous Language Ability And Entrepreneurship Skills Of Non-Native Entrepreneurs In Lagos State

The multi-ethnic composition of Lagos and advantages it offers for business transaction constitute major concerns for stakeholder. Of particular interest is the entrepreneurship skills which have tendencies to deliver advantages to all and sundry involved. There has been evidence that ability to speak local languages enhances identity and trust thereby increasing entrepreneurship activities. This motivated an examination of the relationship between language ability and entrepreneurship skills among non-Yoruba speaking entrepreneurs in Lagos. Survey research design of correlation type was adopted, population comprises of all non-Yoruba speaking entrepreneurs in Lagos, while purposive and simple random sampling technique was used to select 200 participants who are willing to participate in the study. The findings reveal that there is a significant relationship between language ability and entrepreneurship skill of non-Yoruba speaking entrepreneurs in Lagos. It was recommended that local language should be promoted for business transactions.
